AC Not Blowing Like it Used Too

So a couple of months ago, i pulled out a dead lizard from my AC fan, that was fun. Now it seems I have a new issue i cant seem to pin point. It started about a week ago, i noticed that my AC was not blowing as hard or as cold as it used to. I also noticed a low noise, not like the loud noise i heard with the dead lizard in the fan. Also this noise is constant and you can hear it when the A/C is off. Also the weird thing is that even on MAX or Normal, air is blowing out the defrost vent. Another thing i noticed is that with the air on, my car heats up way to much, about 3/4 in the heat gauge. Any ideas?Somebody said it was the damper, but i am not a expert, still learning the whole auto mechanics deal.

the ac causing the engine to run hot ? ac off its normal ? if so I would check the fan clutch if good then acid flush the coolant system and install new coolant that is recommended for this vehicle...make sure radiator is in good condition not corroded core ...

fan is possibly dirty again or may need replacement ..when the go they loose torque/speed ...

As for the air exiting the defrost outlets only, verify the vacuum source to the HVAC damper control head. It's likely that the vacuum supply tube has fallen off, deteriorated, or left disconnected after some other service. You should be able to hear the vacuum porting to the various damper controls when changing the system from defrost to vent to heat to AC.

There may have been fan or fan motor damage when the lizard took up residence. Failing bearings will prevent the motor from reaching the correct speed and will reduce air flow. Another potential problem is contamination on the upstream side of the evaporator, and your lizard friend may have contributed to that by trying to build a nest in there.

I see, i went ahead and bought a new fan clutch, the fan seems to turn very easy with the slight push of a finger. Heard it was not supposed to turn as easy. Installing it does not seem to be as hard as it looks.
As for the A/C, i think i am supposed to take out the dash huh? where is the vacuum head for the dampers located at?

The function selector on the control panel is the ported vacuum switch. When you turn the selector to heat, it ports vacuum to the lower door and outside air. In vent or AC it ports vacuum to the IP outlet door and outside air. In defrost, it dumps all vacuum and forces air to the upper outlet.

So I think I got the A/C problem fixed, turns out all i had to to do was turn the temp to warm and I heard a small pop and it works fine now. I did however change the fan clutch, and I am still getting a high temperature. What can that be now? Water pump?

the temp problem may be the coolant system is dirty.did you inspect the metal on the engine interior thermostat area for blaCK GOOP ?

the radiator with this age is probably in need of replacement make sure its interal/ and external clean and not corroded.

the coolant cap must hold 15psi of pressure . if its too low the coolant can boil and then the engine runs hotter water pump can not pump air.


does the temp go over 210 deg f ? how does the temp rise.


it should climb steady to about 200-210 deg f and lock in...if it changes as you go on hwy and then off hwy at slower speed this may be the thermostat or the system dirty. metal must be clean no slime. fan plastic shouds must be installed..

Well after about 10mins of city driving with the A/C on, it goes to the middle line of the temp gauge. About another 10 mins it goes to the third line slightly creeping in the red. In the highway it hovers just above the middle line.
Plastic shouds? what are those?

the radiator fan must have plastic shouds mounted on the body that just clear the fan tips.if these have been removed the fan can not suck in air and direct it into the engine compartment.also force air thru the radiator.

when you installed the fan clutch you removed these for access yes ?

No what I did was unscrew the clutch and then unscrew the fan from the clutch.
I think the shroud, that is the black circular cover behind the radiator right?

If i was to replace the radiator, any suggestion for a economic one?

you obviously unbolted the fan clutch from the water pump .

the shrouds are removed to make this much easier ...since this is an old vehicle these are usually not in place or broken. since this is good then you must check the radiator and if as I stated it is corroded look for a replacement. possible to get one good for less at scrap yard ..just make sure its not 20 yrs old.
