Has the denso unit, new tensioner ass & belt . Does it about 1800 rpm like the tensioner is slipping Or machine gun fire , truck has about 64,000 miles , Does nt do it all the time , Iam thinking the compressor is JUNK.... Also no metal found on the orfice tube... 2002 / 2500 Hd 6.0 litre Thanks.... I turned the compressor does nt blind at all , Has far for the pressures and freon levels I have a very good
robinair ac machine it has the perfect amout of freon I owned this from new .. its has to some thing in the compreesor or clutch I have a new compressor w clutch I just want to find out what the hell is wrong . . Well rule out low pressure switch ! going after ac compressor next I will take apart to find that fucking noise !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well removed ac compressor today bearing ok . I took the compreessor apart and found the front valve plate with one ear missing , It was stuck into the case of the compressor . My truck has 64,000 miles on it just started making the tensioner noise . When you hear the noise the ac compressor is on its way Out ! Installed new compressor I said new , Back to nice sound, Do not drive with the noise to long or you be spending big MONEY , MPS.... New compressor 240.00 . Dont buy a chevy compressor or you be doing it again ! Buy a aftermarket desigh change .... Like Spi

make sure you have a proper charge and refrigerent oil.

take pressure measurements with doors open blower on high . engine at 1200 plus rpm. hi/low pressures. give air temp when tests made.

also if the system is low on PAG 150 ac oil this will cause thecompressor to be noisy at times of high load, but also if the charge is low .

Re: 2002 chevy truck ac compressor noisy at times !!!

The only answer to it- is to install a new pump and tensioner and belt...or just live with the noise until the pump finally trashes itself and plugs up your condenser...I've tried the new belt and tensioner route- it does not work....

.usually starts making noise around 85k miles

normally when a compressor fails you get noises that vary with load/temp. in your case its intermitent. it is possible the low pressure switch is not opening when pressures drop , the the compressor gets noisey with no/low refrigerent to lube the unit. remove switch and test for proper operation.

Re: 2002 chevy truck ac compressor noisy at times !!!

It would be hard to believe this is an isolated incident-- when there are tons of these out there.. It has been my experience that the rattling tensioner is the telltale sign that the compressor will fail within the next 10-20k miles. The a/c boards are full of this noise complaint- all with the same symptoms-- so if testing a switch will help in this isolated case- go for it. Myself- I generally play the percentages- and by far-with the amount of noise complaints out there say that this case is just one of hundreds like it...this is why I recorded the original video- to help diagnose future cases...

checking the low pressure cutout switch for proper operation is not thAT expensive or requires much effort. replacing a compressor and doing a proper cleaning of the system is much more costly and effort .

not saying its not compressor. even with the install of a new compressor I would dump the low pressure switch for fear it may blow the new compressor should it malfunction.

don't have any knowledge about adjusting any switches !

Going to check that low pressure switch next , I have a new compressor in the box , but hate to put it on not knowing the problem... Low pressure switch is fine... Looks like the old compressor is next !
