2001 ford Taurus AC help

Hello

I have a 01 ford Taurus Wagon

about 6 months ago my heater/AC fan would only work on one speed High. and it started to make a squeel type noise. now the fan does not work at all and the ac does not get cool.

I am wondering if I have multiple problems or one huge problem

By teh way the car has 175K miles and I know it is a V6 I am not sure exactly what type of engine aside from it is a V6

Welcome to the forum!

Sounds like you have two problems, the blower motor resistor and now the blower motor. That assumes you have manual HVAC controls (knobs) and not the electronic control.

Do you have a multimeter and understand how to use it? Testing the motor is pretty straight forward with a multimeter, and likewise the resistor pack is easy to test with the meter especially when removed from the car.

Thanks for the welcome and the information.

Yes The HVAC is the manual controls, (knobs). I do not have a multimeter.

I am slowly getting tools, heck I just recently got a set of Metric wrenches.

If you decide to put a Digital Multi-Meter (DMM) towards to the top of your "needed tools" list, you should be able to search this forum for details on how to test the blower motor and motor resistor.

ok, well that will probably have to wait until next check.

but in regards to finding the blower motor and resistor, just to check, I should be able to access it by removing the black plastic molding under the dash, and behind the glove compartment, I should not need to remove the dash board itself.

That is a true statement. You should be able to access both items from under the dash.

Ok I finally got the volt meter.

I tested the resistor and it is dead. waiting on parts store to get it in.

I went ahead and pulled the blower motor and spined the actual fan blades and it went squeek so I think that is the cause of the noise I was getting, what is the best way to get the squeek out, just coat the shaft with WD40 or is there a better way

High speed for the blower bypasses the resistor set so since your blower eventually stopped working on high speed as well, I suspect your blower motor is also shot. If the bushings are squeaking, even if it's not currently shot, it won't be running much longer. Replace it now while you have it apart.
