2004 GP - Steering Wheel Radio Controls
Does anyone know how to remove the steering wheel radio controls from a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix?

Not 100% sure on the 2004. Do your steering wheel radio controls look like this less the Tapshift? See pic below.

Re: 2004 GP - Steering Wheel Radio Controls
Unless you can find an easier way here what the GM service manual has.
First step is to disable and remove the airbag module (SIR). Disable SIR system by removing the battery negative cable and airbag fuse. The main problem I see is you need a special J tool to remove the module. Tool part number is J 44298, Driver Air Bag Removal Tool. Tool is inserted into two holes on the back side of steering wheel. There are 4 you can use. Steering wheel is positioned so 2 of of holes are on top (12 0'clock) and then tool is inserted. Next issue or obstacle is GM recommends removing the complete steering wheel. Again special tools are required to do this. J 1859-A, Steering Wheel Puller and J 42578 Steering Wheel Puller Legs. Once the steering wheel is pulled you remove the steering wheel shroud which is the plastic part on the back of the steering wheel. Once the shroud is removed you can access the radio control components.

Re: 2004 GP - Steering Wheel Radio Controls
I really only need to clean the right side controls. Feels like something sticky was spilled in there. Just bought the car for a song and this was one of the few things that needed to be fixed.

I'll sing you two songs for it (double your money)! Then you wont even have to worry about cleaning anything!

Re: 2004 GP - Steering Wheel Radio Controls
You can try using electrical component cleaner that doesn't damage plastic or other surfaces. Product like CRC QD Electronic Cleaner. I've used it on computer components. See link.
