Is it bad that my cylinders look like chocolate cake?

Yeah, I think I know the answer to that one...

There was a lot of motor oil around the spark plug head also; this is the first time i've looked inside my engine.

I also noticed one of my cylinders has a lot of liquid in it (can't tell what, probably motor oil tho), while another is completely dry.

Both cylinder heads look like a deluxe chocolate cake...mmm...

Should I put some engine cleaner through it? Do engine cleaners actually work?

Thanx guyz

dont even bother with those engine cleaner shits, it sounds to me like you got some blown piston rings in your cylinders causing your "chocolate cake" problem, go fix those first, then clean your engine.

The odd thing is, the engine actually runs ok (it has good power, passed emissions, etc) although it does idle somewhat rough.

Would blown piston rings cause the engine to run horribly?

I don't know how many miles it has...

The previous owner rolled back the odometer. I know it has at least 120k, but probably closer to 150k.

Would it be worthwhile to try engine cleaner?

Man you need to do a complete rebuild not any of this engine cleaner shit. If your rings are blown thats letting that oil get past them into the firing chamber and thats killing some compression. Also the rings being in bad shape may lead to some other shit that might screw up like the head gasket. Mine blew in the ol gran prix and it shot about 2 gallons of water into the oil. Thats how I know about the whole milkshake Chocolate cake stuff. When you drain a bucket full out of you car and the entire engine is caked with it you might as well buy a new engine or have that one dipped and cleaned.

Dont use engine cleaner or anything like valvoline max-life....any high detergent motor oils either.....they'll break all that crap lose thats built up in there and your car will start to burn oil...I did that in my old civic...not a good idea....plus all that stuff it breaks lose has to go somewhere and depending where it is it could plug or somewhat plug your oil pump...
