2000 Express horn stopped working.....

Replaced the blown fuse for horn/underhood light in underhood panel. Light started working again, but still no horn. Replaced horn relay next to fuse----still horn won't work. No previous problems w/horn at all.....What next? Thanks. WJ

Jumper the horn with a fused jumper and see if it works.
If so go to horn relay and check for power to it and see if horn button is switching relay on.

Post back what you find.

Re: 2000 Express horn stopped working.....

Double check the horn fuse for power both sides.
I show a separate fuse for horn in under hood fuse box.

Re: 2000 Express horn stopped working.....

Yes, horn and underhood light fuse are the same, located in underhood fuse panel. This van has the deluxe (2 horns) setup. Anyhow, I was going to run a test lead from horns directly to battery to see if horns work that way, or are they burnt out?.....however I cannot FIND the horns. Supposed to be located left front engine compartment....are they under PCM, underneath fuse palel? I looked real close inside grille, also from lying underneath front of truck w/good light.....just couldn't find the horn unit....never had THIS happen......must be losing it. I did notice someone else asked the same question: Where is the horn located on a 2000 Express 2500 passenger van? Feel like a real rookie today.....Help... Much thanks. WJ

What year and engine?
Do you have a remote lock and unlock or remote start and horn key thing?
If so Will horn honk from it?
I show left front of engine compartment for horn location.
May be hide under something.
Or like my wife's car.
She said here horn was not working.
Got to looking at it and found horn mounting bracket but no horn on it.
Stolen or fell off.

If horn is good and still there and grounded and plugged in good.

You should be able to fused jumper the dark green wire at horn relay and hear horn honk and locate it if working when jumped.
Let us know how it goes.

As I stated, 2000 Chevrolet Express 2500, 5.7 gas motor. Aftermarket alarm system with aftermarket remote entry that triggers a "beep" from alarm siren----not the factory horn. The Horn relay is plugged itto the underhood fuse panel. I see no green wire there to jump. Looked dilligently today and still camnnot find actual horn location in left OR right side engine compartment....know it's hidden behind or underneath something....Anyone here that's in-the-know help out ? Much thanks. I really want to fix this soon....WJ

Re: 2000 Express horn stopped working.....

Does relay click when horn button pressed?
The dark green wire to horn can be found on the under side of relay box under horn relay.
Or pin out relay prongs and jump it from top side.

Best testing can be done at relay.
Remove relay and get a wiring pin out of relay terminals.
Check for power and ground to it and for horn button ground to relay and dark green wire jumped to see if horn works and if so horn honk will help you find it.
Good Luck.

Re: 2000 Express horn stopped working.....

Do A little testing while you are looking for the horn.
Pin out at horn relay.
C6 orange wire and D8 orange wire should have 12 volt power.
Pin C4 black wire is ground out wire from horn button.
D4 is dark/green is horn feed 12 volts wire.
For horn relays wires you have to look on under side of horn relay.

For 12 volt power on C6 and D8 pin use test light.
For horn button ground on C4 pin use reversed bulb type test light or volt meter neg. led.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Re: 2000 Express horn stopped working.....

Thanks, when horn is pressed, relay does NOT click----either old horn relay or new one that I bought......Maybe tomorrow I'll see if I can make time to pull relay and look for the colored wires, but aren't they inside the fuse panel where the 6 blade relay sits? Don't think I want to take that fuse panel apart. This is a PITA.....Again, thanks. NO one here knows exactly where the horns are located on these trucks? WJ

A good look over should find the horns.
But.
First thing.
You need to get the relay working.
And horn location may take care of itself.
Check for ground and power to the two wires and check it and for horn button working.
The horn buttons grounds relay to turn on relay and honk horn.

Well, at first I saw the top of the PCM w/some big looms of wire going to it....THEN, when I picked up the big bunch of wires and moved them aside.....Voila,,,,there are the horns.......mounted way low on the fender skirt. Horns were hidden completely by the wire bunches....never would've found them w/out help. Tomorrow I do some testing. Thanks MT-2500, for the assistance. Hopefully, I can find the problem now....BTW, is it a big deal to remove air-bag cover/horn button to get at horn switch? WJ

You are welcome.
Yes they tried to hide them.
No easy button on finding them.
I had to look two times at a 02 express van and it had Computer removed.

Removing the air bag and horn switches is a pain.
Test horn circuit at relay first.
The horn button grounds the relay to trip relay and honk horn.

Also the horn button runs threw clock spring.
