96 Lumina 3.1 Thermostat Pipe

I am changing the LIM Gasket on my 96 Lumina with a 3.1 engine. I have everything loose except 1 pipe on the drivers side of the car. It's short pipe that comes off the Thermostat housing and goes toward the cab of the car. It appears to be connected by sliding in a plastic connection and the short pipe bolts to the engine block. How do you disconnect the pipe?

There are two plastic tanks on the end of the quick connect. Push those tabs in while pulling on the pipe (with the nut loose that mounts it to the head). It will eventually pull out after some pulling/pushing/wiggling. Do youself a favor and replace it while you have everything torn apart. They are readily available and inexpensive.

I just called Oreillys and they want $9 for the plastic part. Where are they cheaper?

Okay I just took the whole part out and will replace it when I get the plastic part disconnected. It still isn't coming apart.

I do have another question. I can't get one of the lines of the fuel rack to separate. Do they both come apart? The 1 farthest away from me unscrews but won't slide apart?

I would love to meet the Chevy brains that created this garbage.

You don't need to separate the fuel lines at the rail. Unbolt the line retainer from the bracket near the rear head. Unbolt the fuel rail from the intake. Spray a penatrating lube into the base of each injector where it goes into the intake. Carefully remove the fuel rail/injectors from the intake and swing out of the way and or hold out of the way with a bungee cord.

Re: 96 Lumina 3.1 Thermostat Pipe

I finally got the back line loose. 1 year ago I had a mechanic run cleaner and pressure check the injectors so I just left them alone. Thank you for all the help.

How many O-Rings are there on the fuel lines that connect to the Fuel Rack? Is there an O-Ring for both lines or just on the 1 near the front of the motor?
