Best PM for your Honda!
The absolute best preventative maintenance items to keep your Honda running its best are:
1. Change the oil and oil filter often. 3-5 thousand miles. 2. Change your air filter once in the winter and twice over the summer. 3. Change your fuel filter once a year. 4. Make sure your tire pressure is good. Purolator Pure-One is the best filter technology on the market for the money. By doing these inexpensive maintenance items, your car will get good fuel economy and last a lifetime! |

Re: Best PM for your Honda!
Oil changes - Depends on where you live and how you drive. Not much dirt road driving or dusty conditions and not much idling when it's hot, no daily commutes at 80 plus mph plus then every 5K mi is good to go. Honda says 7500 intervals under easy driving conditions. IMO, unless you really jam on it 3K changes are wasting money. After my 09 Civic is broke in I will do 5K changes and use WalMart Super Tech full syn oil ($17. for 5 qts) and Super Tech filter made by warren oil co. Another very good oil is MotoCraft syn blend for $2.77 a qt at WalMart. Same thing cop vehicles use and no way many of us put the same stress on an engine as a cop car.
2. Change your air filter once in the winter and twice over the summer. Again, it depends where you live and how dusty it is. Strictly highway driving, at 10K intervals I check and bump it until no debris falls out then vacuum clean it. A good guide is hold it up to the light/sun and if you can see plenty of light through it it's still good, you see no light then can it and get a new one. 3. Change your fuel filter once a year. Can't buy into that because I drive 8K mi a year and no way the filter is gummed up in 8K mi. Change every 20K mi and most cars can do 25K with no problem. If you were unfortunate and got bad gas then change it. I run a can of fuel injuector cleaner in a tank of gas every 5K mi. 4. Keep the tires at proper pressure. Give that man a ceegar! Lot of folks don't know there is a "rolling resistance" factor on tires that helps gas mileage and we should try to get the least rolling resistance we can afford. What we can comfortably afford. Times are hard and saving a dollar here and there sure helps. No way we should put our vehicles at risk of big repair bills to save a few bucks on maintenance. What I am saying is if you don't know what maintenance program you should be on, ask a few garages and the Honda shop because that's what they're there for. |

3. Change your fuel filter once a year. QUOTE] This is bad section to suggest replacing the fuel filter. It's in the tank. There is a lot more to it than just those basic things. Trans fluid, coolant, VALVE ADJUSTMENTS, brake services, tire rotations.....etc. |

Re: Best PM for your Honda!
I admire your desire to keep your Honda running and to help others keep their's running. Good on you!!!
IMO I'll stick with the factory engineered maintenance minder. I figured Honda spent the time to design it and install it in their cars based on their knowledge of their designs and the maintenance intervals of those designs. |
