a/c problems on 98
I have a 98 cavalier with a 2.2 with a 5 speed. When I run the a/c, the car tends to stall out. It started this last year and has gotten worse this year. It usually only does it in town or short trips, rarely out on the highway. I can turn the a/c off and shut the car off and start it right back up and it will usually run fine with the a/c on for awhile. I have replace fuel pump, fuel filter, plugs and wires. Anybody have any ideas where to look next?

Re: a/c problems on 98
When the a/c engeages, it puts quite a load on the engine, which the IAC is supposed to compensate for by adjusting the idle rpm. I would suspect this is not always happeneing, perhaps because the IAC is faulty, but more likely the valve and/or passages are gummed up with gunk. Remove the IAC, clean the passages, pay particular attention to the port inside the throttle body, and the back side of the throttle plate, I think you might find them very dirty.

Re: a/c problems on 98
Not there must be no problem with uel pump, fuel filter, plugs and wires but yes look for the surpentine belt and the compressor motor that its running fine and not putting pressure onthe engine....
