Need Painting help.

Hello.

I'm 16 years old. I got bored this summer, and decided to get into modeling. I've built maybe 8 models so far, ranging from aircraft and tanks and 1 attempt at a car. Now I'm currently working on a Tamiya xanavi nismo 350z, and I have a Tamiya ferrari 360 modena that should be arriving in the mail any day now.

I would really like some advice as to how to paint these cars. Painting cars and military models are two different things from what I've heard. You can make any mess up look good on a war weathered tank- but one good scratch in the paint of a car and you'll be stripping the entire thing down. I ordered some tamiya Italian red, aluminum silver, and some tamiya gloss clear coat. They are all Tamiya spray cans. I'm pretty confused on how to properly paint the cars. All I want is a high gloss shine, but I can't seem to find a good guide on how to achieve this yet. I need to know everything, all the way down to the primer.

Do I need to sand the primer? What grit sandpaper?

How long do I need to wait for the paint to cure? What kind of sand paper do I use on the paint?

Will I get a shiny finish by clearing coating? or just buffing the paint?

I'm sorry but I'm still learning this hobby. I love it to death though. If you could maybe post a guide on how you paint your cars, and a link to a good guide, that would be awesome!

- Also I have an Iwata Eclipse airbrush. That might change how you write your guide.

Thanks, Nick.

And offcourse you can read up in the FAQ, as located in my signature. P-Man has some great tutorials/"show and tells" about painting that you shouldn't skip either.

Some short cuts:
How-To prepare a body
Painting modelcar bodies
How to polish a body
