2006 Maxima Timing Chain Tensioner Issue
Its looking more and more like I am on the road to replacing my timing chain tensioner (2006 Maxima, 82K). Dealer quoted me ~$2,400 for all tensioners and water pump. He said it would take about 20 hours. Has anyone done this job themselves? (I have done several DIY jobs, including head gaskets, timing belts, intake manifold gaskets, transfer cases, rack and pinion, steering gears, clutches etc etc in the past)
In researching this issue, I have read the Nissan Service Manual for the car and the TSB. I would order the two "special" tools (to compress the tensioner and lock the crank). So far, the only issue I have seen is that I would need to have the A/C discharged prior to starting work...and of course recharged aftewards Guess my question is - is there anything that could be a "gotcha".. where it warrants having a mechanic do it, or is it fairly straight forward, given the TSB, service manual, time, patience, and a digital camera...... Any thoughts? |

Just tighten all bolts to specs. I'd also use locktite. Dunno about the 'special' tools; quite often one can improvise and save also on those, depends.
