Steering wheel controls and horn not working!

Hi! I just bought a montana 2000 a few days ago, and I'm quite happy with it, of course it has some problems here and there, but must of them are answered here! But 1 (or at least I didn't find an answer)

The van had a small crash before I got it, it was on the drivers side, in the front, nothing too hard, but it might had popped the airbags, altough the airbags appear to be original, the airbags warning light is on.

Anyways, all the controls for the radio on the steering wheel are dead, in fact, they don't even have any light on them, and the horn doesn't work either (by the way, where is located under the hood?) I'm guessing that maybe someone tampered with it and didn't connected it again, if so, where or how should I check any connectors? Or any suggestions on how should I tackle this issue?

Thanks

Re: Steering wheel controls and horn not working!

I would venture a guess and say the clockspring in the steering wheel is bad. Probably whoever replaced the wheel and airbag screwed it up. You may get away with just a new clockspring (which COULD explain the airbag light) or you may also need a new airbag.

I agree its the clock spring, if you are going to fix this your self , make sure you know how to disarm the air bag before you start pulling it apart, i have heard that sometimes when you hook the battery back up it will trip the air bag if it was not disarmed proper

Re: Steering wheel controls and horn not working!

Ok, thanks! I will try to first pull the steering wheel out, and see what happened there, do you guys think that it might be possible too that this is too responsible for the interior light not coming up when I open the door? (I read somewhere that it maybe has something to do not sensing that the key is not inside the ignition cilinder, or something like that)
Thanks1!

I doubt it has to do with the interior lights at all, if that's what you are asking. The interior lights are controlled by a switch on the doors.

Well, I think I'll try to check on the overhead switch, since the door ajar light will come up if any door is open, i'll take the switches are fine...........
