Crankshaft Oil Seal (Shortcuts?)
Just curious if anyone can offer any tips on doing the Crankshaft oil seal. Can it be fully access from the passenger side wheel well? Any other tips on making this as pain free as possible? I have mine leaking at a slow rate and want to fix it, don't wanna use any mechanic s in a can.

I did my wife's 1999 Malibu this way. I had it on jack stands and used an engine hoist. I removed the front engine mount then dropped the motor.
If on jack stands you can use floor jack with a piece of 2x8 on the jack so you don't crack the oil pan. http://www.autopart.com/tools/toolsmain/tool/T_2236.htm I used a harmonic balancer like this with a lot shorter bolts. I have a lot of used bolts so I found some that worked. Be careful as an air conditioner line is close. I also used a seal driver. Remember to lubricate the seal. |
