p0331 rough idel

I have a 03 s-10 4.3. Its got 100k on it and today i started it and it was ideling like hell. I waited a while and it got better so I drove it and service engine soon light came on. I got it home parked it, came back 45 mins later, same story rough first 2 minutes then all was well aside from the light being on. So I took it to autozone and they pulled a p0331 code on it. Said to try wires, plugs, cap, and rotor. I installed all this and the problem is still there! Whats next?

Thanks Derek

Re: p0331 rough idel

You might want to try checking for the Idle Air Control piece.

The IAC controls a small side butterfly valve to open and close when your not putting your foot on the gas pedal and opening the main butterfly valve. The motors for the IAC can corrode and burn out over time, leading to IAC failure and really rough idling.

Give this a shot first.

Re: p0331 rough idel

would that cuase the bad idel after sitting for 30 mins after being driven. After a few mins a horrible ideling it slowly comes out of it and runs fine. It also runs fine from a cold start. Its as if once things get warm something stops doing its job.

Codes do not say replace parts but to check it out.
And do not do everything AZ tells you.
First thing.
Recheck that code no.
Because I do not see a code 331 for it.

You should not jump in on these old postings with other forum members issues ...start your own post with your issue..

normally idle issues are vacuum lines /PCV and related vacuum/crankcase venting...

any lines cracked are defective. use a vacuum guage not your eyes/ears to determine if you have a vacuum issue ..
