Mass-produced model cars are made mainly of styrene plastic. They include some minor parts made of other types of plastic, like calcium carbonate. Companies like Revell, Tamiya, Fujimi and Monogram make styrene models. Most are made in Japan.

Short-run production models, and cars in 1/43 scale, are made of cast epoxy resin. Many of these are handmade in Europe. They often include metal parts.

Modelers use putty of various kinds to fix defects and to customize cars.

In fact mass producer like revell use virgin industial clay to do the master in 1/4 or at least 1/8. when the master is done they 3D scann the parts and work with... usually solidwork to brake the car in several part to do the mols at the desire scale.

the finish product is like you say. but I think the question was what WE took to do the master.

yours

Oh. Thanks for correcting me.

I thought he was asking about the "material used to make a body kit." Somehow I missed the part about "what WE took to do the master."

Do you do mastering?

Cool. But I STILL can't find the part where the OP asked about how masters are made.
