Re: Ditech's Mercedes-Benz 5.0 SLC Hans Heyer Gr.5 1981

Hm, strange - my updates in my own thread are not shown...

Okay, than I will write posts again

On weekend I've done some work with the body. A lot of sanding - yep. Also, I figured out that the front-grill is too complicated to be restored, so I looked at ESCI 450 SLC and Arii 450 SL model-kits, which I have for front-grill molding. The Arii's version is more true to life, and I will use Arii's front-grill for copying. For headlights I will use ESCI's lamps.
With the cutted front, I have cut out the rear end with lights and some grill which is too soft like soap, although it should be sharp like on prototype. The rear bumper was cut, and I will use ARII's rear lights for copying. Also I should to make the rear bumper more real like on prototype.
Here are the photos.

The next update will be in mid-August I suppose. I'm travelling from my home for a month or so. That time there should be my McLaren kit delivered.

The Hans Heyer Merc is shown as out of stock - maybe the mould is worn out looking at the body in firun's pics?!

It's a pity this bad quality because they have many interesting sujects. I was near to place a 6/8 kits order, but looking at this quality.... The half kilo bread i bought this morning is more accurate....

Casting in resin is another feature. If people are not able, to cast without bubbles in that amount, they should think about the technique they use or leave it.

After a certain amount of castings, the mold must be replaced - if not, the panel lines on the model f.e. will just be shadows, just what you see here at this SLC body.

Look at other after market offers: for 50 to 60 Euros you get transkits with better resin, etched parts, metal parts, decals, etc ...
Well I am still waiting for the information; where to buy those transkit that you are talking about?.

I am sorry for you, I got ten (10)of them a couple of days ago and they are very good, some bubble at the lower edges very easy to fix ,nothing big. If you measure ditehc quality by this mercedes ,you are not near the reality. The alfa GTA Gr5 is fabulous with the tamiya as a donor, mine is 1/2 on its way. where can you get a Fiat X 1/9 1/24 for any price?.The Cayman CSR is sweet, compare this to the transkit on sale now,It is 2/3 of the cost and is a complete perfect body. A 924 GTR 1/24 with LM decals? Do not get confuse by someone that has not bought a ditech body, they are not perfect but you wont be disappointed, beside those theme are not found anywhere.

Could you possibly start a thread with pics of these bodies please - in particular the Alfa GTA as I was almost on the verge of buying that one when I saw the pics of the Merc....

Thanks

yes, can your pictures confirm what you are saying? If you take a look to the images on the ditech website the Mercedes itself seems to be a great body.
In the meanwhile I am going on "primering" my half bread...

Re: Ditech's Mercedes-Benz 5.0 SLC Hans Heyer Gr.5 1981

z-lurp...

this is what Gionc is speaking about: "panino al lampredotto" or lampredotto sandwich. Typical of Florence (my city), Italy, the "lampredotto" is a part of the stomach of a cow boiled with vegetables and herbs and served "wet" on a sandwich... ZZZLURPPPPPPPPPP! Who is coming in Florence must not forget to try it (even if is typical in winter and fall only...)

excuse the off topic...

That one is very nice,if you likes to build Mustangs. The issue here is not to build any model but specific rare one. I am asking again, where do we can find those theme at any price? They are not perfect, but not trash. MFH have perfects one at $280 a piece. If you do not like to sand or paint LMM have built one at $200,and Welly have very nice Mustangs at $13 a piece
