93 escort stumbles at hi-way speed

While driving at hi-way speed (100km per hour/60 miles per hour) the car will all of the sudden begin to stumble. I can either let my foot off of the throttle or put my foot into it and it will begin to run normal again. The check engine light comes on intermittently but does not seem to create issues when on. The stumble only ocurrs once in a while. I am leaning towards replacing the throttle position sensor but not too sure. The oxygen sensor is new.

I would try new plugs and wires before doing anything else. If that didn't help it I would put a can of fuel injector cleaner in the tank.

My car did this and it was a bad plug wire.

My 95 was stumbling sometimes at highway speed and acceleration. Checked the plugs which had 40,000 on them. Gap was too wide on #1 and #4 (.060), regapped to .054 and stumbling is gone.

I was going to suggest that. I just regapped mine yesterday, and even with 45,000 miles on double platinum plugs the gap was way too big. car runs smoother today.
