1995 Lumina ECM

Hello to the forum and good day.

I have a 1995 Lumina sedan with 3.1 engine. It has 175000 kilometers. Head and intake manifold gaskets changed out 5000 kilometers ago. Running well prior to present problem.

Lately the car has been acting erratically beginning with refusing to start (clicking noise when turning the ignition key and nothing else and if the starter does engage, the engine immediately stalls- starter and battery connections good), rough idling, cooling fans not working after replacing all sensors and relays). Occasionally the car starts and runs OK but I've come to not trust it.

I'm beginning to suspect a problem with ECM engine computer.

Is there a way to diagnostically test the ECM to check for correct operation?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

There really is no definitive way to do this, the starter itself would not be connected to the pcm, the cooling fans come on with the ac or over 222 degrees, stalling, rough idle, can be many things before the pcm, bad injector, carboned up throttle body sticking egr to name a few.

+1^^

Without knowing anything else I'm thinking that a corroded battery cables/ground ground connections, or a bad ignition switch could be the culprit.

Does your Security light ever illuminate while the car is running? If so, it could be a PassLock issue...i.e. a worn key/ignition lock or a bad connection with these components could be to blame.
