Question Reliability

Well how long/miles can this car last under normal driving conditions. Like how reliable is it to a civic or other hondas, because from what i hear most nissans are unreliable. My friend was thinkin bout getting one and im test drivin one on monday for personal pleasure. Thanx ahead of time!

I think they are more reliable then Hondas.... hondas have bad automatic transmissions and Preludes have expensive air conditioners..

miles

well I personally love Nissan for the Reliablity, and for the Silvia (240SX).
I have 136K on my '91, and 103K on my '97 !!
They both start with no problem and, I drive them with out worry!
If the Engine goes out, put a SR20DET in it.
Peace,
Drew

your friend who told you that nissans aren't reliable is on drugs. my friends S13 went to 220K miles before it craped out. and he was beatin the hell out of it. you want to compare cars, then compare a civic to a sentra. they are the same, a altima to a accord. okay the accord wins. then you compare the maxima to the TL type S. since those 2 cars in the same class. and i have a friend who owns a 5th gen max, and my mom owns a TL type S. the maxima is built better. the TL is built kinda cheap. i've read up on alot of problems on how the car falls apart and rattles in just a few years. after closer inspection. i see that hes right. when you close the door, it lacks that solid feel. the maxima is alot more solid of a car. and you don't constantly hear about hte first 2 gears breakin like you do with the TL. bottom line is, they both are very reliable car companies. if you want to see cars that are built like crap. look at a rx-7 and look at any mitsushitty.

Hey! RX-7's aren't built like shit! Problem is, rotary engines are still in their childhood and it's hard to come by a real rotary mechanic. . . .

Yeah

Hm

ooosh

i drove 2 rx-7's on friday. i had to test them out for my friend who was interesting in them. well let me tell you, the one in the better condition, the interior maade soo much noise i was goin to kill myself. then i drove another one, and the centersole was fallin off, and you can move the guage cluster with my finger, and the shifter columb was slanted and i can move the whole center piece with my hand. the trunk hatch had a leak so there was water all over the trunk, and the whole interor was literally fallin apart. afterwards i got back into the blue rx-7 and that one didn't seem so bad anymore lolz. if those are well built cars, then wow my car must be built like a tank then.

Hrm. . . well I'm not saying that they're extremely well built cars, but mazda did a pretty good job with them.

Assuming (and hoping) you test drove two FCs and not FDs, I think a lot of that has to do with how the owners treated them, and the fact that they're all over 10 years old. All of the FDs around here all look purty damned good for being 7-10 years old. On the other hand, most of the FCs I see tend to be pretty shabby and rough. . . --sigh--

Anywho. . . just defending my dear RX-7. . .

My car hasnt been very reliable. Since I bought it six months ago, I've had to replace the distributor, struts, waterpump, brake rotors, and crank case, as well as fix a power steering leak and carbon clean the throttle body. The paint is in bad shape (not by any fault of my own), the exhaust is starting to rust and the doors rattle.

But I have never, for one second, regretted buying her :smoker2:

well the 240 i drove was a POS. Though it only had 76k miles on it. The other one was sold already. the spoiler's bolts on one side rusted away, it had snow tires, the seats were all torn, leaked oil, was really really hard to shift, and at the end of the test drive it had a smell i never smelt before. I told the guy what I thought of it and said i wouldn't pay anymore than 1500 for it and he said as is I'll sell it to you for 2200. So I said well sorry then.

Also there was something else that i thought was wrong but the dealer said its supposed to be like that. When say I shift at 5000 rpms, it would stay there in the next gear for like 5 seconds then start to increase higher, it never dropped. Was it the meter, something else, or was the dealer right about the fuel regulator?

sounds like a bad clutch. well any car if you beat the hell out of it and not maintain it properly can have problems like that. fliquer, those things that you mentioned most of those things your suppose to replace when you buy a car. its sorta like giving it a major tune up. and those 2 RX-7's i drove, they were FD's. as it turnes out the Blue one had 7 owners, and the black one that was in really really really really really really and i stress really bad condition has how knows how many owners. and as for my 240 i'm the 5th of the car, and my car has been hit twice. thats why my interior rattles alittle bit. perfectly understandible.

Since when do repair costs exceed $2000 in six months. Did i mention the trunk has a major hole in the water seal (which I cannot find) and the fabric has torn completely lose? Or that the license plate holes rusted out and had to be refabricated? Or that both the front and rear bumpers have developed serious web-cracks? Or that the jack-points bend under pressure? etc etc

Water pump and rotors, sure. But most vehicles never need a carbon cleaning in their lives, and the crankcase should last at least as long as the engine itself.
