Thumbs up 88-91 Civics still hold their own in SCCA

I was reading the results for the SCCA national tour that was held in peru this past weekend I have several close friends who went there to compete. Well 4th gen civic's are damn good race cars i don't care what anyone tells me, and the results prove it. In H Stock, there were 13 cars. 6 of them were brand new base model mini coopers (which are still tottaly leathal cars when it comes to handling). 5 Si hatchs went head to head with the all mightly mini coopers that i've been hearing about tearing up HS. Consider how old our hatchs are when compared to the technolgy that went into a car like the new mini's. Well the results went like this for the first 8 places...

1. Mini
2. 90 Si
3. Mini
4. 90 Si
5. Mini
6. Mini
7. 90 Si
8. 90 Si

Now I love the new minis they are awesome little cars, the fact those 4th gens were able to stand toe to toe against them in STOCK form as far as SCCA allows is freakin awesome.

Also, in the street touring class (aka same class i race in), you had everything from newer civics, to the dreaded subaru 2.5RS's, and even grassroots motorsports brought their 02' Si hatch which is starting to become a very fast car. ( http://www.grassrootsmotorsports.com/02civicsi.html ). Well GRM's Si came in 5th outta 15 cars (not bad at all in my book). A 2.5RS got 2nd....and a lone 89 Si took first place just ahead of the subaru. Again this is pretty amazing, I mean these arn't just your average drivers you gotta remember that. But it made me feel good to see the older civic's don't appear to be goin away soon...can't wait to see how they do at nationals topeka this year!

Results from peru check them out,

Do you find more hatches autocrossing than CRXs? I'm assuming all those si's you mention are hatches?

Either way, I'm still taking my car to the track soon...

And oh yeah, the mini is popping up everywhere in so cal...the glass top is really cool...

Yeah, old Civics are really small, and obviously so are Minis, so small cars dominate in handling.

I like the minis - but damn they are expensive (over here at least) for what they are.

For the price of a standard Mini (not the Cooper S supercharged), you can buy a S15 Silvia, a WRX, 2 Soarers, an Evo 3, SS Commodore etc, etc.

Nice, cute even... but not a 4G Civic and definitely not worth the price

i will probably do what i did with my 1st 4th gen. i bought a '90 Dx in '95 (60,000 miles) for $8000 from honda. with the mini i'll probably do the same. wait 5-7 years and hope they don't fall apart in the meantime.

oh wait...didn't i say i was gonna try a '99 Si in 2004 ?

All I know is that the EF8/9 Chassis' rock because of the small size and low weight which means a motor swap with a SI or Integ motor has great potential, you could probably run a stock motor and beat a turbo/supercharged car with ease.........trust me I know........I have a 91 Civic DX with a B18 Ls/Vtec Motor Swap and it hauls ass, gettin traction is the hard part though......lol
