Mx6 Vs Prelude Vs Corrado

i currently own an 1993 mazda mx6 (v6 24v dohc 164hp 160ft/lb 2688lbs) with 135k miles, im at a crossroad....either keep it and do a MAJOR swap of a Sr20Det (yes Front Wheel version Gti engine in Japan) or get a corrado and mod the hell out of it or even yet get a prelude si and keep it till i can afford an H22....

I personaly lean towards the Sr20det in my car...it would be so nasty, the engine is capable of handling 30psi on stock internals....300whp uhhh....i dunno

what you guys think?

The SR20det is a Nissan Engine.
It will not be happy in the frount of a Mazda with out some series enginering work. Namely custom mounts and axles. As well as a complete engine loom rewire.

Its do able, but it would be cheapper to sell your car and buy a 240sx and swap the SR20det into that, if its your engine of choice. (and at 30psi of boost the stock internals will not last long.)

Which year Prelude are you looking at?
If one of the 5g or 6g ones, which already have the H22 in them its by far and away the better of the 3 cars you've listed.
If its an earlier B20 powered car, then I wouldn't waste my money on it.
Again an engine swap to an H22 is not an easy exercise, and IMO the money is better spent on a latter model.

I do indeed know that a Sr20 is a Nissan motor, my shop has custom mounts that bolt up very easily and the whole set up would run about $3k....ive seen pics of the swap and it is insane. i never said i was going to boost 30psi i just said it could be done.

i was talking about the 4g preludes and i have never heard of a 6g prelude before in my life......4g are 92-96 and 5g are 97+. The 4g in 93 had a prelude Vtec which has a E-spec version of the H22 that was close but not quite the J-spec H22. The newer 5g preludes had basicaly the same motor. the 93-96 Prelude Vtecs were the fastest of all with the E-spec H22. I was talking about swaping the J-spec H22 into a 4g Si.

i dont' think swapping in a j spec H22 is a wise investment if your already have a v-tec prelude. all your goin to gain is 30hp. not worth the thousands of dollars that its gonna run you. if what you said is true about being able to put the GTiR's motor into your car. then go for it. cause those things are monsters. with 4 throttle bodies and the whole nine yards.

you mean the 4g and 5g preludes, there is no 6g.:silly2:

anyway if i were you, i'd do the swap into the prelude or dump the mx-6, get yourself a 240 and then do the sr20det swap. IMO, the nissans look better than the mx-6. but if you wanna be original, you can try your way.

OR

forget about the H22, get the H23 and throw on a turbo onto that bad boy and drop it into the prelude. H23's respond so much better to boost than the h22. that's if you're planning on boosting the car though.

 Yeah I keep thinking Civics, I forget that the Prelude and Accord are a generation behind.

MidnightMx6 Dont forget that once you've done the engine swap you still have to upgrade your brakes and suspension to cope with the extra power. Otherwise the car justs becomes and Idiots death trap.

And I still think a Prelude is your best option, an SR20det in an MX6 might sound like fun, but if its your daily driver, and only means of transport it could rapidly become a huge headach. A swap of that magnatude will never ever run pefectly 100% of the time.
