Help
Hello, I just bought a 99 tiburon and I am already having problems with it. When I mash the gas it hesitates kind of like it is running out of gas. Has anyone had this problem? Any sugestions to what could be wrong? It does not do it if I lightly press the gas, only when I punch it.
....and yes it does have gas!

Possibly a clogged fuel filter, or dirty injectors. Could also be fuel pump related. Bad plugs or plug wires can also cause this but I would bet its a fuel problem and not a spark problem.

I kind of suspected a fuel problem, maybe some bad gas, so I put some water remover in the tank. If that doesn't help I will probably take it to the dealer. Any other ideas or experiences would be appreciated. Thanks

Well, I finally found out what the problem was with the damn thing. The transmission is shot. Fortunately it is covered under the warranty. What kind of POS car has a transmission go out at only 55K miles?!

Ok, here is the latest news... They got the tranny in and it still doesn't work right! Now I have to wait even longer for them to figure out what the heck is wrong with this thing.

I think when you said 'it feels like it is running out of gas' you were on to something. Obviously when you mash the throttle you let a lot more air into the engine. It is probably taking too long for the ecu to compensate and step up the fuel delivery.
Now, this could mean a lot of things. your fuel pump could be starting to go, or your fuel filter needs changing. My guess is that if the tranny is shot from the previous owner's driving habits I would take a look at the filter and pump. He probably neglected many of the parts of the car that require occasional replacement. And by ripping around town he has probably put a lot of strain on the pump.

Alright, well I finally got the thing fixed after the dealer replaced the transmission in it twice, all of the sensors for the transmission, and the computer.....it turned out to be the air flow sensor. The car worked great untill my wife wrecked it the day after it was fixed. I am just having bad luck with this car! I guess it gets to go sit in the body shop for a while now......
