Question Dumb Question

This is dumb I know but i have the 98 Intreque with the 3800 motor in it.I was wondering with my car running, when I disconnect the wire for my EGR valve what should happen?

I did that on mine and nothing happened. No lowering idle, puttering, skipping nothing. Is that what its supposed to do or?

Re: Dumb Question

From what I've read the EGR helps fuel economy and will keep your check engine light off as its wired with the emissons electrical system. Also if I clean it, it might boost fuel economy.

I also have a question when I had a check engine light for my O2's and Cam Pos Sen before I just changed the parts and the light went off automatically a few miles, minutes later. What would you call that, I've heard some names but don't recall it? But its a good part of the car as other cars will require a OBD2 scanner to delete the codes and reset the light. This car will do it for you and prove that the problem was sloved by running its own test.

Re: Dumb Question

My EGR valve does not set off a code or make the engine idle any different either. I had to replace mine when I bought my 2002 3.5L some mice had chewed through the wires and hoses.

Re: Dumb Question

This wasn't a dumb question. I am sure even the most advanced mechanics can still learn alot from these forums
