1998 Bravada Service AWD Light

We have a 1998 Bravada Service AWD Light, it originally came on about 6 months ago and we replaced the transfer case shift motor (I think that's what it's called - it's located on the outside, plugs into the transfer case) and the light went out, been working fine since.

Fast forward to yesterday, drove home from work, parked it, came back out 30 minutes later to leave and when I started it up, the light came on. We unhooked the battery cable, light stayed on. Then we put our OBDII computer on it, it did not recognize any codes, but the light went out. My husband drove it to work today, no light and when he left work, light came back on and the AWD doesn't seem to be engaging.

Is there a fuse that might be blown or a wire that might have a short or be loose or is the motor (that is expensive as hell) bad again?

Could be several things.
Lot of sensors and computer controls on it.
needs to be put on a transfer case scanner and get codes.
Post back code no for more help.
Was the gm transfer case fluid used in it and was it ever or has been serviced?

How are you checking for AWD engaging or not engaging?

How many buttons on the switch panel? 3 button selectable or 4 button auto.
