DX/SI Trans swap

First let me say i'm more of a Ford truck guy...so b18 and db17-6=3 and all the other numbers are spanish to me...

I have a 91 DX Hatch 5 speed. It's compleatly and utterly stock and such a dog that I get irritated trying to drive it. (I understand better gas milage means less power...but this is kinda ridiculous.)

I actually work for a Honda dealer, which has gotten me more into cars lately. 2 guys I work with have a garage chocked full of parts, from the 80's on up, and one was telling me how if I put an SI trans in it'll have a little more balls to it than with the stock trans, because he did it once a few years back but can't remeber what all needs to be changed to accomidate the SI trans...if the clutch/axles/etc are different or not, and if they are we need to dig through the piles of goodies to come up with all the stuff needed. Seeing how everyone at my work stares at mainly newer Hondas all day, the information they had on older cars has slowly leaked out their brains and now are trying to dig through the mush to come up with the answers...and it's not working the best...so I figured i'd try this site. Also, looking for other suggestions as to other interesting mods that can be done on these, without turboing it or making it a race car. Not my style. Cars to clean to be cut up...these things are hard to find in good condition in Wisconsin.

thanks.

Re: DX/SI Trans swap

If you are going to swap the transmission, it will be easy but the parts you will need are the following,

The Axels you have should work fine with the SI transmission.
The axels on the Dx and Si are 26 splines, so keep those.

While you are at it I would replace the Clutch and Flywheel.
You can purchase an Excedy Clutch Kit About $100 online and Flywheel, Same price around $100. You should not pay anywhere over the $200 dollar mark for these parts. They are optional. which would complement the SI transmission nicely.
