1996 2.2 transmission

I have a 1996 2.2 cavalier i cant figure out what transmission is in it?

Automatic or manual? Number of ranges? Does the vehicle still have the RPO/SPID label in the trunk? The three-character alphanumeric code beginning with an "F" or "M" should designate the original transmission.

it is an automatic 3 speed and there is no label in the trunk i want to buy parts for it before it goes all together and i need to no if it is a 4t60,4t65,4t80 or whatever.

With 3 forward ranges and no OD it's probably the 3T40. Those were available through at least 1998.
