93 cutlass rear shocks and leaf spring .....how to

is it hard to replace the rear strut cartrige and the rubber insilators on the leaf springs, how difficult? we have to do this and we were quoted 450 dollars to do it, more than we can afford, we usually do our own repairs, but are unsure aabout the leaf spring assembly, and the shocks
anyone do this yet???

You need to find a method to clamp them then get them into place, cannot do it from here.

If you have an Autozone, Pepboys etc. nearby, they might have a spring compressor that you can borrow for a small usually returnable fee. Read the instructions at the autozone site and be careful. You don't want to mess around too much with these things.

Go here and fill out for your car:

http://www.autozone.com/shopping/vehicleSelect1.htm

Then go to steering and suspension. It should tell you what you need to know.

Hope this helps!

Re: 93 cutlass rear shocks and leaf spring .....how to

I got into the same problem when changing my rear struts. I ended up using a piece of all-thread. 6-8" long. About a eanch from one end, damage the threads so it will not try to screw in any farther. Use two nuts (one for jam nut). You will be able to compress this rubber spring and hold the spring compressed. That's why it has a hole down the center. Worked perfect for me!
