94 Camry Wagon - Hatchdoor latch broken

Can't open the hatchdoor. The gray rod from the handle pulls on a brass plate within the latch assembly but he brass plate has no resistance - it seems detached from it's mechanism to unlock. Can't get to bolt heads to detach door latch assembly cause locked. Any ideas to open door? Thanks. Doug

Re: 94 Camry Wagon - Hatchdoor latch broken

Not a great pic but the gray linkage rod inserts in the hole on brass plate. The brass plate rotates CW (downward) to open the latch. Brass plate is very loose - it's not engaging anything. Another thing is a wire with 1 red/1 white leads going into latch mechanism. So, I'm not sure if pulling on handle mechanically opens latch or activates an electrical actuator to open latch.
