Hey guys I have a question.I have to drain my tranny soon to remove the fluid and trans tune I put in.Can I remove the tranny lines going to the radiator and start the car to get some of the fluid out of the torque converter?
Would that remove more of the bad fluid than just dropping the pan? |

Re: Tranny drain
It will remove the amount of fluid that is on the pan. Once the fluid level gets low enough it will not be able to get picked up by the filter and it will stop flowing. As soon as it stops shut the car off.
You can add fluid while you have the lines off and essentially flush the transmission. It can be messy and you will need roughly 12 quarts of fluid to flush and then another 5 or so if you drop the pan to change the filter.

Your statement suggests that won't get any more fluid out of the tranny(torque converter)So it would be save to assume the flushing procedure you describe won't do it either? |

Re: Tranny drain
Flushing will get most (99%) of the fluid exchanged. far more than just running it until it stops coming out of the line. When you add the new fluid to the pan that is what is getting sucked up into the transmission and getting circulated until it finally goes out the cooler. When they do a transmission flush at a shop they use a piece of equipment that automatically adds the fluid back into the system through the cooler lines. By adding fluid and letting the old fluid come out of the cooler lines you are essentially doing the same thing.
