1997 pontiac grand prix engine miss& hesitation
yes, i been having problems with my 97 gp when you first start out and turn off engine for a minute or two the engine has a miss and hesitation. there has been a code 420. I changed the fuel filter, which hasn't been changed for long period of time, but didn't help.also put can of fuel system cleaner in but didn't solve problem. my question is if plug or wire misfires will it show up in codes? the code code 420 is this the catalytic converter code, could this be bad ? never been changed. has 204,000 miles on car.

Re: 1997 pontiac grand prix engine miss& hesitation
The P0420 DTC means the CAT converter has an efficiency problem meaning it needs replacement. Is this a stock exhaust system or modded?
Unless the coils, spark plugs, wires or fuel injectors are bad you may not get any random or fixed misfire DTCs. It depends on how much crank variation is detected during a real misfire. A bad CAT converter may or may not give off any DTCs but start with the P0420 DTC.
