Too much engine oil??
Will I do any damage to my '09 Camry if I put in a half quart too much engine oil? I changed the oil yesterday and put in 5 qts instead of 4.5.
Thanks! |

Re: Too much engine oil??
No. Drive it until it's hot and check the oil dipstick on a level surface. If it's above the max line more than just a really small amount, drain some to below that level. Actually, I used 5 qts in my 2.2 5S-FE for a long time. I have some oil leakage from some places I don't care to investigate (it doesn't use a quart between oil changes). I don't know if these leaks were from those years of overfilling it or not.

Re: Too much engine oil??
Well after I got done changing the oil, I checked the dipstick and it was over the fill line. I know I put in 5 qts, and was supposed to only put in 4.5. Since this is an '09, I don't want it to cause any problems. I called the dealer and they said it shouldn't be an issue, but he recommended letting some oil out.

Re: Too much engine oil??
I wouldn't think 1/2 over will cause any problems. If it was a quart over I would then be concerned. Leave it as is or drain a bit out if it makes you feel more comfortable.
