Shorter Serpentine Belt possibility

My A/C compressor took a turn for the worse on my 99 Cherokee L6 4.0. Is it possible to use the Serp belt spec'd for a non-A/C vehicle? I can't affford to drop $500 bucks on a repair job right now. The Serp belt for vehicle with a/c is 95" long. The one for non-a/c is 79" long. If it is, in fact, possible to do this, is the belt routing the same (less the a/c pulley, of course) ?

Yep, it is. It's likely that you have the diagram for the different routing on the sticker under the hood.

In the future, just start one thread on the topic if you would. I've closed the others for you.

Re: Shorter Serpentine Belt possibility

As fred said, usually the sticker will have the routing for both and that should solve the issue.

I will say as a word of "caution" that over time the bearings on serpentine driven accessories tend to work in tandem (ie-when begins to bobble, the other 180* to it will begin to "counter-bobble"). So when you remove or replace one item in the sequence, something else is bound to fail not to far off in time.
