So my problem seemed to have gotten worse now when I start it in the morning it idles really rough then dies. When I start it again it runs fine for the rest of the day. Any ideas?

1. Clean the throttle body, paying particular attention to spraying the cleaner liberally down in to the square or diamond shaped port in the base of the throttle body, That port leads to the idle air control valve, where your problem may exist. Let the cleaner soak down there while you go on to clean the rest of the throttle body.

2. If cleaning the throttle body doesn't hlep the problem, I would next test the engine coolant temperature sensor. To do this you will need a digital volt/ohmeter and the specs from any manual. If you don't have a manual you can download one for free at the top of this forum's hime page.

2005 Camry doesn't idle right

ok this might sound like a stupid question, as i mentioned before my car is a 2005 (gen 5 i think) not the same as the original poster, is there anything different i need to do? Also is it best to clean the TB while its on or off the car, and if i need to take it off is there anything special i need to do while putting it back on?

(ps. the symptoms have gotten worse and it dies on the first start of the day and i have to start it twice and sometimes at stoplights it has a rough idle right before i take off)

Sounds like similar symptoms that I had with my 95 Camry. I changed the coolant sensor and it fixed my problem.

Re: 2005 Camry doesn't idle right

Symptoms may be the same, and the also possibly the solution, but the model years are generations different...so I've moved this to it's own thread.

If the IAC valve and ECT sensor aren't the cause, I'd pull the plugs and check for fouling. One fouled with oil (leaking valve seal) or fuel (leaking injector) can cause a rough idle when cold, then smooth out as the contaminant is burned off. Also, check for any trouble codes that have been stored in the ECM.

Good luck!

Re: 2005 Camry doesn't idle right

There isnt any codes stored on the ECM, I recently changed the plugs when this problem first started, the ones i pulled out were fine and didn't have any fouling on them.
