Re: hey guys. im back. My car is now officially screwed up.

Just a follow up. I've decided not to try to get it back to factory-as in.. put the CConverter back on and oem airfilter. As far as I can tell.... the car is getting to much air and is compensating by adding more fuel, but its not able to control idle... idk. However.... I took it on a trip to texas, only because its been dependable so far.... anyway.... I avg. 32mpg on the way up here... BETTER MPG THAN WHEN I HAD THE CAR RUNNING RIGHT....

That last bit has me confused. Idle is up to 1200-1300 rpm instead of the stock 900-1000; car has wayyy more power; I can let the car idle at 35mph in town. Add that up and i get better mileage. I check my mileage 12 times. i avg...29.9-32.7 town and highway.

Although, ever since I took off the catalytic converter, it has wanted to overheat in anything hotter than 80* weather.

whole thing seems wierd

Re: hey guys. im back. My car is now officially screwed up.

I'm just wondering if your idle problem could be a faulty temperature sensor somewhere?

My grandam 2002 idle at about 1100 when it's very cold, and drop at 600 when it reached it's normal temperature.

I also noticed that it will lower the idle as the temperature increase.

So that would cause a low idle with the engine cold and a high idle with the engine hot?

And as far as I can tell the temp gauge is working, unless my car has two temp sensors...??

do you have carburetor? If yes, I will tell you how to adjust the idle speed.

I have a throttle body, so timing and idle speed is computer controlled. I wish it was OBDII, then i could actually run some real tests.... sux its not. I got a cbr600f3 that has carbs... and it wasnt that hard to fix, especially since i have an uncle who is crazy good with syncing carbs.... but not so much with EFI.

Since im in tx right now.... when i get back, im getting everything as stock as I can, then run some sensor tests for correct voltage and what-not. I have all the tools, and diagrams... it just such a pain... -__- ugh.

Re: hey guys. im back. My car is now officially screwed up.

check your IAC connector and wiring, it is possible that your IAC keeps on disconnecting intermittently and can not reset itself. On your engine your IAC can only be disconnected when engine is off, and pcm will reset iac when your reach 43mph and rpm is above 2000rpm. Otherwise idle will be wrong. I would completely concentrate on IAC and its wires start from iac connector and test its wires all the way to pcm.

also measure resistance of your iac between a-b c-d should be min 20 ohms for both

Re: hey guys. im back. My car is now officially screwed up.

Not sure if anyone even remembers this topic, but..... I have some interesting things happen.

1. My mileage was 27-29 BEFORE the car started acting wierd. Now it is 29-33. Im driving the same way.

2. At any speed greater than 50 the car runs normally. For instance I can decelerate from 55 and it slows down and feels normal, but at say 45 the rpms rev back up a tad and the car doesnt slow down as fast.

3. Sometimes when i start the car, the rpms are REALLY low... like 400-500 and then they will kick up to 1200-1300 which is 200-300 above idle OR the car will die.

4. On the rare occasion that it idles @ 1000rpm for a few seconds, the engine feels rough, not like a cylinder is missing ruff, more like each firing is too strong.

5. If I remove the intake manifold hose the rpm and power goes up even more-and runs rougher.

Yea, im confused.

I check over some stuff and still cant find anything. Im looking into a vacuum leak somewhere though. Im tempted to NOT do anything, since my mileage is pretty good right now. Unless its something that could really damage the engine.

Wish I had money for a shop.... but heh, car isnt worth but 1k.

Thx, guys
