Re: Massive McLaren F1 gathering at the McLaren Technology Centre

I am told it was a special F1 Owner's Preview of the MP4-12C that brought all the cars together like that. I bet it was Lewis' idea.

Re: Massive McLaren F1 gathering at the McLaren Technology Centre

A friend saw LM3 because of wheels and wing but I'm not convinced.

I count 24 F1s, I hope all cars were well phographed but maybe, some mysteries will stay

That red GTR with an yellow GTR text; is #10R isn't it?!

Re: Massive McLaren F1 gathering at the McLaren Technology Centre

Yes I knew that video fortunately!
Just assumed that it has been filmed a long long time ago. Funny.
So it's quite recent case then, the changing back to presentation livery.
When it did get it back then?

Was it Supercar france site where I found 3 #10R images, 2007 it still had the red livery!

We need to figure out new adjectives for that sort of things, at least there is a good emoticon to describe it:

One more pic from Mr Bridger, lets hope for a lot more, but if it was owners only event, I won't hold my breath for many more pics.

Seriously, even seeing three side-by-side is incredible, but ~20?

The livery change would have followed that unfortunate crash by the journalist that is mentioned in those magazine scans. All that took place sometime after 10R left the Beaulieu Museum at the end of 2008. The Autocar piece was put together in June 2009 which was the first evidence of the return of the Presentation livery.

Thanks for making this clear.

I didn't knew that crash so now everything makes sence.
Is there any information how bad that crash was and how it did happen?
I have missed the magazises totally.

BUT anyway; it's good very very good that #10R has it's an orginal livery back. Very good indeed!
The rollcage is missing still? Or is it?

Re: Massive McLaren F1 gathering at the McLaren Technology Centre

The only evidence I have seen of the 10R crash was from those scans that are at the end of the thread I linked to. No pictures of the damage GTR have surfaced, but it was probably not anything too extreme if it didn't impact any solid objects. It does appear that there is a drainage ditch on each side of that road, so safe to suspect that it did not land softly and some bodywork got tweaked.

The driver was Arnstein Landsem, and his photographer was Fredrik Otterstad. Both are from Norway, and since I don't speak Norweigan very well (at all) I haven't bothered to try and ask either one about it. If you want to give it a go, be my guest.

The roll cage was still fitted to #10R at the time it was on display at the Beaulieu Museum, but in the photos since the refit it has obviously been removed. That's probably a good idea for a car used mostly on the road now since knocking your head on it was probably not any fun at all.

Thanks for separating this out Peloton!

I don't think I have the correct superlative to describe such an incredible gathering.

After watching that video, I honestly couldn't see myself buying a standard road car over a GTR converted road car. The rev matched downshifts sound incredible...wow. I think the longtail GTR would be more difficult to take around town (looks to have lower ground clearance). 1996 GTR would do it for me.
