How to change gasket on cross pipe at rear of engine

We have a coolant leak on a 95 Isuzu trooper. It is coming from the left side gasket at the cross pipe and leaking down the back of the engine. The leak is so bad that water pours directly through to the ground when the engine heats up. My dad has removed everything on top of the engine to actually see this cross pipe, but it is really tight and he would like to know how this cross pipe is removed to replace the gasket? We have a repair manual, but it is not very forthcoming on this particular fix. Do we have to take the engine out or drop the transmission to get to it? Please tell me there is an easy way. Thank you.

Re: How to change gasket on cross pipe at rear of engine

for these repairs, back 'tween the firewall and the engine, JLEMOND has often recommended loosening, not completely taking off, the trans mount nuts, and then jacking up the tail of the trans, so that it tilts the engine, which he says sill then give you enough, not plenty, but enough room to get in there
