'97 Grand AM Cooling Fan Not Working Correctly
Seems that my cooling fan will not kick into low when the car starts to warm up.
When it comes close to overheating the fan will kick on high. I have replaced the temp sensor and the fan motor. The relay was check and that did not solve the problem. I have a thormostat that I am going to change tomorrow. Just wonder if there is something I am looking over. Oh, and I checked the fuse also, its ok. Oh, engine is the 3.1 btw. |

Re: '97 Grand AM Cooling Fan Not Working Correctly
I only see one cooling fan and one relay in the wiring diagrams which indicates there is one fan speed not two. GM's generally don't kick the cooling fan on until the coolant temp gets pretty high. I would be more interested to see what the coolant temp is on a scan tool before I did anything. There may be nothing wrong with the cooling system but the gauge might be going bad giving inaccurate readings.

Flushing the coolant tomorrow and changing the thermostat.

K. We replaced the thermostat and it still seems that the coolant system won't pressurize. We used a tool that does pressurize it and it held. Any ideas? He thinks that the pump is ok, but still a possibility that it isn't pumping "enough". Ideas?
