97 PA Ultra (Supercharged) - Help! High idle/Rough Drive/Sputter Startup

Hey guys - your forum has been a big help so far on me honing down on this problem, sounds like an IAC thing from what i've read through this forum but I need your guys advice - Not a car guy, more of a computer guy but im so sick of paying for my car to get fixed on every little thing so - gotta start somewhere.

Year: 1997
Make: Buick
Model: Park Avenue Ultra Supercharged
Engine: L67 Engine
Mileage: 105k-110k I think

Here's the story with my car - I'll try and be brief.
  • 2 Months back or so thought i caught a bad tank of gas on my way back to college - Car started driving rough on the highway - shaking, wheel shaking etc - never did that before
  • Put dry gas in it since i thought it was bad gas - sorta helped the problem but it didnt totaly go away
  • While i was driving one day car just started sounding like I was driving a bycicle with a baseball card attached to the spokes - Was completly confused - parked the car for a week but took it to grab food once (heard to loud slamming noises while driving) come to find out i broke 3 motor mounts
  • Motor mounts fixed - First day getting it back check engine light comes on but no issues - noticed i was leaking a lot of oil (puting in a quart a day and it was going through it like nuts)
  • Couple days later car starts accelerating on its own i noticed while on the highway was like wtf?? - In drive stopped at a light its idling high - Parked it shoots right up into 1500-2000 rpms (and in reverse) So i have it towed to the guy to look @ it
  • Oil leak is a big prob apparently - He fixes small leak and says he thinks its coming from the front casing and apparently its a big job he doesnt want to do (can anyone confirm this?) - Went to show him the acceleration problem and it was magically gone (car was siting for a day or 2)
  • Today it came back mysteriously while driving for a bit - same problems - Rough driving while on the high way - Idling high etc etc - Parked it for 5-6 hours just got back in to test drive (drove 10 min - no issues high idling but the rough shaking etc while on the high between 57-65 is def there) it but no idling issue - puzzled
  • Makes a whirrrrrring sound when I drive not super pronounced but you can hear it no problem while driving

The big problem i noticed Car is leaking somewhere

In between the arrow point to the right and below all along the stuff near the left wheel well (got down under the car and looked up with flashlight could tell it was hittin the beams and other stuff near the engine block then dripping to the ground (if you're looking at the car from the front) - Whether its oil or not i cant tell but since im always down it when I check I guess I can assume that.

Some parts down there look clear others are cover in a sludgesk type substance - and it doesnt rain alot where I am.

Also, Car sputters when starting and most times doesnt start

Unless i give it a little help from the gas pedal and then it starts right up. Sometimes it'l catch other times it wont.

Bottom Line: I'm confused - This area of stuff is way out of my knowledge base and i'm ready and willing to learn - I'm strapped for cash and relying on the pops to help me out. Going to bring it to a dif mechanic on Monday to have him look at it (friend knows him - recommended him) What should i mention to him and are there things I can try in the meantime? Also is the leaking of the oil where it is dangerous, could it set a fire off in the engine? What's your advice guys.

Thanks you for your help

With all the problems mentioned, you should have some stored DTC's! Have you had the engine scanned? If so, what are the codes? Apparently, you have several problems, but we could only speculate without knowing the codes.

Understandable well I did go to autozone to have it scanned and guy said all that came up was a "Gas cap issue" thing so i took it off put it back on he reset the code and was good to go for a few days then it came back on while I was at the gas station (just got done putting more oil in too) - I'll see if I cant take it back there tommorow and get it re-scanned

What was the code, P0441? If that is correct, it is a EVAP issue, which could point to many different things, but most common is a vacuum leak. The problem here is, most of the symptoms you described, are not directly related to a "Gas Cap Code"!
