2010 camry

I just bought a brand new 2010 LE camry. The skidding light and engine light are turned on after running 122km. I was told that a some kind of cam shaft sensor was gone. The customer service told me to drive my car home until the parts available. I know I don't have to pay anything as my car is under warranty. Here are some question hope some experts can have me the answer.

a) Is it OK to drive a long distance and will it damage the engine with those lights on?
b) What is the function of that sensor?

Thanks

Re: 2010 camry

I know little about 5th generation Camrys but since nobody is answering I'll give you my two cents. It's probably safe to assume the "skidding" light only indicates that system is disabled. That only means if you get into a situation where that system is needed to provide an input to stop the car from skidding - it won't help you. Otherwise, you have normal control of the car just as millions of other cars without the system. If it is THE camshaft sensor that is failing, that gives me more concern. In most electrically controlled engine management systems the camshaft sensor signal is key to engine timing and fuel control. Unless the new 5th generation designes have changed I would be reluctant to drive the car any further without replacing it to prevent any potential engine damage. If they insist it's fine GET IT IN WRITING BEFORE TURNING THAT KEY.

2007 - present is considered the 6th generation Camry.

Re: 2010 camry

Hi guys,
Thanks your using information first. My car finally fixed by the dealer. A camshaft position sensor b circuit (bank 1) was replaced and there was a code P0365 on the invoice. I don't know what that means. Now I can go as far as I can.

It would be best if you started your own thread for a question like this. It is totally unrelated to the current thread.

That said, try the information on programing transponder keys about half way down on our first FAQ's page. Here's a link to that page:
