2000 Grand Am wont start
My 3.4 v6 grand am just died when I was driving down the road today. We checked the plugs, made sure that it was getting fuel, replaced the camshaft position sensor, checked all fuses, and still nothing. It turns over but won't start! Any help would be appreciated, I just bought this car 2 days ago! UGH!

Re: 2000 Grand Am wont start
Welcome to AF!!
Did the security light come on when the car died? If it did and you aren't using an original key you will need to get one or try another one if you have two. If you have an original key you can try to reset the system by setting the brake and turning the key on for 10 minutes then turning it off for 30 seconds and turning it on for another 10 minutes on the third time the car should start. If the light didn't come on then the issue may be the crank position sensor, fuel pump, fuel pump relay or the engine computer. If you haven't already checked for spark and fuel that is the first place to start especially if the reset doesn't work. Good Luck! |

Re: 2000 Grand Am wont start
Fuel pressure should be 47 psi or more.... My fuel pump went out, I didn't think it was the fuel pump since i could hear the pump turn on for a few seconds, and gas would squirt out from the schrader valve on the fuel rail. I replaced a lot of parts 'till i finally put a fuel pressure gauge on it. What's your pressure with key-on, engine-off? Also, check the fuel-pressure regulator; take off vacuum line to it and if there's liquid gas it's gone bad.

Re: 2000 Grand Am wont start
take off the fuel line turn key on if no gas comes out its fuel pump, turn key on to acc if you dont hear fuel pump humming replace, when you turn the key all the way does the engine try to turn over and dont or is it just dead?

Re: 2000 Grand Am wont start
The fuel pump is in the gas tank and the filter is usually on the driver side of the car.

Re: 2000 Grand Am wont start
Thanks for all of your help everyone! The fuel pump was not putting out 47 psi like Skeeter suggested it should. I Changed the fuel pump and the car is running great!
