Leaking heater core 92 Sierra 1500 4.3L
Can anybody shed some light on the procedure to replace the heater core in a 92 GMC Sierra 1500? I hope it isn't as bad as the 98 Chevy Blazer I am finishing up now!

Re: Leaking heater core 92 Sierra 1500 4.3L
Well, there's the right way and the quicker way. The quick way is to bust the bottom cover on the heater to gain access to the core. There are several screws holding it in place, but the heater needs to be separated from the firewall in order to get at all of them. The correct way would be to pull the dashboard away on the passenger side, remove the heater from the firewall, and remove the lower cover. Not a fun job.

It can't be a bigger PIA than the 98 Chevy Blazer. I guess I'm looking at pulling the interior (including the dash) out to get to the heater core box. Typical half-assed GM engineering.....

If you have a 1/4 u-joint socket you can get the bottom cover off without pulling the air box. Just make sure that the plastic is warm or it will brake. I have replaced mine and my friends that way with little problem (I did mine when it was cold and broke the corner off it.
