Aston Martin DBS

Hi all! Its been awhile since i posted stuff online. Managed to get this at the hobby shop suprisingly as its supposed to be released late of this month in Japan. Its weird cause Japan is usually the first to release new tamiya kits. Anyway here it is.

Re: Aston Martin DBS

I'll bet Tamiya wouldn't be happy about the fact someone is skimming kits in another market before the officially go on sale...but thanks for showing it

I have a review sample (from Tamiya to Scale Auto) in transit right now, so I'll have the DBS and SLR 722 on my bench in a couple of days

Looks like they molded the body in dark green? And the engine is simplified. I'm assuming the small p/e fret is standard...

Mine will be Magma Red

I saw the SLR 722 on sale as well. I didnt get as i wasnt really interested in it.

Body molded in metallic black and engine is simplified , wont be able to see much though as the engine cover is massive.
The PE is a standard i suppose. Its stated on the box.

Mine will be Pearl Metallic Black

Re: Aston Martin DBS

I primed and spray on a layer of mica silver as the base coat.

Also did some work on the rims. I felt the chrome colour of the rims stock are quite unrealistic. So what i did was spray 2 layers of smoke and then rubbed on the "black powder" Cant remember the name but it was made by Work. It actually makes a chrome finish on a gloss black base coat.

Smoke coated

Re: Aston Martin DBS

Thanks for sharing! I have two on order as well. I had an email exchange with the people at Hobby Design and they said they are going to produce these wheels, along with a possible Volante version (that will be interesting to see how they do that...seems like it would require an entire new body from the A pillar back). BTW, this color is AM Amethyst Red, which Scale Finishes can reproduce.

Re: Aston Martin DBS

I envy you.
I'm already regularly checking when this kit hits the stores. And it's nowhere to be found. Unless for you, of course...

Anyway, nice of you to show the contents of this kit. Now I know what's in store for me.
What I couldn't really make out in the pictures is how well the brake discs are detailed (if detailed at all). In your pictures they seem just plain plastic with no grooves or holes moulded into them. It would seem that Tamiya is going the same route as with their latest kits... ie. skimping on the details to make you buy their PE set with brake disc detail...
I hope you can prove me wrong here.

The other PE fret (with the grilles) comes with the kit, if I read the text on the box right (see 1st pic in 1st post, white text at the bottom of the box).

Will be following your progress closely !!!

Re: Aston Martin DBS

What are the clear plastic thimble looking things on the clear sprue, right under the rear glass in your picture? And I don' know if I understand or like the look of the brakes.

I love your color choice and the treatment on the wheels looks great - you're right, the chrome is a little overbright, I think. Don't forget to pick up tortillas!
