|
squeaky belt sound under the hood..
So now when I start my car I hear the sound of the pulleys squeaking against the belts... My question is how do I fix this ? Does anyone have a tutorial?

Best bet is just to loosen them up some. There's a tensioner that you just loosen the bolt on and pull the pulley out just a little.
Mine always squeak when there's mositure outside. Just gets on the belts/pulleys and causes it.

I will inspect the belts, at first glance they looked fine though.... can you provide a picture or something ?

Dave you mean tighten up the belt a little bit. If its squeaking its because its to loose. You need to check your belts and see which one is loose. Im not sure where the tensions are on your motor but they are easy to spot. You have your ac, PS, alternator, the other pulley is the tensioner

Over tightened belts can also squeel. Talon has always had that problem. Loosened up and it's fine.

You must have had that thing tight as shit. Im assuming he hasnt messed with the belts lately which would mean that it has streched and he probably needs to tighten it.
I recommend you go and buy a manual for the store, it tells you how tight to get the belts and where your tensioners are located at.

It could be also the idler pulley, tensioner's pulley or even the power steering pump or water pump or alternator. Inspect belt condition and check the tension. You should have 1 inche play in the belt tension. Then check P/S fluid level.
If you don't find anything abnormal, remove the belt, and rotate quickly each pulley (except crankshaft) until you find the one who make the sound. To remove the belt, just rotate the tensioner and remove it. To instal it back, it requires a lot of torque in the tensioner to rotate it. You may need a metal hose to have more torque.

Our tensioners are not spring loaded, they have bolts to tighten and loosen the belts. Other than that good advise
