So i was driving along just fine went to shut the car off and the damn key wont come out of the ignition i thought this is werid. So i tried pushing the shift lock release. But the car shift into all the gears just fine. I started it up again and parked somewere else and like i said it shifts into all the gears without and issue . but when i go to shut it off the key turns halfway and is stuck. What can i do to fix the issue. |

Re: key is stuck
Sounds like the key release solenoid is gone bad or is weak and will not release the key.

Re: key is stuck
yeah, your going to have to replace the ignition cylinder. Do you have a really large/heavy keychain? If so...this is what happens 90% of the time. It causes the tumblers to go bad

Re: key is stuck
Use the manual key release thats on the underside of the steering column. Remove the nickel size cap and insert a pointed object to release the key. Another thing you can do...and what I did to save a few hundred dollars....get a 1/4inch grommet from Lowes along with a clevis pin. Insert the clevis pin through the grommet and insert the combination into the hole. The grommet should keep it in place and hold down the manual release.
Never use WD-40 or the graphite gel in the ignition, ESPECIALLY TOGETHER. Together they form a wonderful solid that will destroy any lock. Hope this helps. |
