1997 Park Avenue Ultra no start
I have a 1997 Buick Park Avenue Ultra, 226,000 miles, well cared for. The problem that I have can be best described by a previous incecent. About 9 months ago my wife came home from work complaining that the car had no power and was bogging down real bad. Went outside, lifted the hood and one of the pulleys for the blower belt had worn out and fallen off. Replaced the pulley and belt and all was good until about two months ago when it started running the same way. If you give it less than 1/3 gas pedal it runs fine. When you step down the pedal farther it feels like it's choking for air and if you step it down to the floor it will actually lose speed, just like it did with the blower not turning and blocking the air.
It has since died and had to be towed home. I got this from my scan: P0113 intake air temp circuit signal high P0300 engine misfire detected P1111 iat circuit intermittent high voltage The fuel pressure is good and I've replaced the wires. I'll check the plugs tonight. It just cranks over easy but doesn't sound like it wants to start. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance Jim

Re: 1997 Park Avenue Ultra no start
Might not be a bad idea to see what the Intake Air Temp sensor is sending to the PCM with a scan tool. Extreme swings from this sensor can cause some funky driveability issues like the ones you described.

Do you have good spark & are the injectors firing? IAT sensor would not cause a no start!

Re: 1997 Park Avenue Ultra no start
Besides spark & injector pulse, you should also check for fuel at the test port on the fuel rail. When you check for spark, test at each of the three front cylinders or each coil.
If you have fuel at the rail, spark & injector pulse then you can try unpugging the MAF sensor & cam sensor. Let us know if you need any more info on any of these checks. |

Re: 1997 Park Avenue Ultra no start
I ahd an S-10 pickup about 5 or 6 months ago with a bad IAT. Cranked all day long and would not start.

I replaced the crankshaft sensor and the IAT sensor to no avail. The car has excellent fuel pressure and spark. When I tested the injectors there is almost no power when it is cranking. Any ideas?

How'd you check the injectors?

Re: 1997 Park Avenue Ultra no start
I connected a small light bulb to the harness. While cranking it mostly stays dark but occasionally flashes really dim and once in a while brighter. With all the injectors connected while cranking sometimes it feels like it wants to start. What can stop the injectors from firing? From my scan tool I got:
In the misfire data the miss history of the cylinders: 1. 611 times 2. 11 times 3. 369 times 4. 0 times 5. 178 times 6. 105 times Misfire passes 3717 It also has "1982 battery/source volts high" and '1983 battery/source volts low' codes. Thanks again!

Re: 1997 Park Avenue Ultra no start
im throwing thing around here if im wrong then tell me but could this issue be caused by a cam sensor since the cps is only used during start up only sending referance to # 1 cly to pcm

Re: 1997 Park Avenue Ultra no start
I've always used a #194 bulb to test for injector pulse. I think the starter turns the engine over about 300 rpm. So that's about 5 times a second & the injector will fire every other turn or around 2.5 times per second. The fuel injectors just fire for milliseconds. So the bulb never lights up all the way & I don't think the filament has enough time to ever stop glowing. IIRC you just see the bulb pulsing different shades of orange.
If that's what your car is doing then try starting with the MAF sensor unplugged. If that doesn't help then plug the MAF back in & try starting with the cam sensor unplugged. |
