Car won't start after siting for a short time
Don't know if anyone out there is havving this problem but after running to the store and parking the car and coming out about 30 mimutes later to and hour the car will turn over but will not fire or idle so low that it cuts off. then I wait a little while and try it again and get it to start but cut out again, then the next time try it and it has a rough idle put give it some gas and it start. Could this be the fuel pump? or do I need to replace the fuel filter? Help please.

Re: Cra won't start after siting for a short time
It doesnt sound like a IAC issue. If it were it would shut off at idle, but it would restart every time. Sounds like the whole "hot start" issue some people experience.

Sure y-pipe or something didn't pop loose?

Re: Car won't start after siting for a short time
No, not the Y-pipe connection or other pipe connection. Thinking about changing the fuel pump and fuel lines out. The car has a lot of miles on her. But thanks for the surguestion

Stealthee; what is the "Hot start issue"
Explain please. Could this be a radiator problem. I have a 93 VR4.

Its a fuel issue.

Re: Car won't start after siting for a short time
After some reading, I think Stealthee nailed it. The general idea seems to be that since most gas stations now have ethanol added into their fuel, and ethanol has a lower boiling point than gasoline, after driving and then turning off the car, the ethanol is boiling in the fuel rails. It appears people are leaning towards thermal wrapping their fuel rails for more insulation to prevent this. Also hot-wiring the fuel pump, whether it's stock or not, guarentees full voltage to the pump at all times...which can only help. I didn't see a definitely conclusion as to if doing both completely solved the problem, but it looks the most promising.

Re: Car won't start after siting for a short time
Igovert500, thank you for the info I appreciate it very much and Stealthee; thank man for pointing the way I do appreciate it also. Would you think larger fuel rails would help this issue or adding a fuel additive to the fuel? Do you have any other suggestion?

Re: Car won't start after siting for a short time
Nah, stick with the thermal wrapping, cheap and easy. Some of the people experiencing the issue have upgraded fuel rails/fuel pressure regulator, etc. Additives in general probably have a lower boiling point (ethanol additive being the source of the problem) so no I doubt they would help
