'05 1500 5.3 Trans problem

Today I gave my truck some gas to start out from a light and the engine reved and the truck slowly started to move. When I give it gas in any gear it revs up and it slowly gets up to speed. 4th is the worst...if I shift into 3rd it's better. Any ideas?

Always, Always, Always first check fluid level/condition and check computer for codes and operation of PCS. Next since its affecting all gears progressively getting worse, tap the line pressure. Is reverse weak also?? Is it possible the trans is starting out in 3rd gear? (Limp mode)??

Re: '05 1500 5.3 Trans problem

I had the truck in for wheel hubs the week before and all fluids were checked and all was fine. The first thing I did when I limped home was check the trans level and it was in the hash marks and was ruby red and didn't smell burnt. I remember looking at my trans temp on my Scan Gage II and it read 167 so the trans was warmed up but not hot. The dealer has the truck now but can't look at it until Monday. There was never any warning lights or anything. Reverse works fine and I don't think it was starting out in 3rd gear. When it started out it reved up and when it shifted again it reved up also.

Re: '05 1500 5.3 Trans problem

I took the truck in because of a whine from the left wheel bearing...they said both hubs needed replacement and it was just under the 5yr 100,000 power train warranty...which I hope the transmission will be covered.

I ask because my passenger side hub bearing is making noise and on rotation you can feel the bearing being rough not smooth ...

this is the first time I had this componet fail ...I took off the sensor and the grease inside the bearing hole was rusted ///so somehow water got in ....

I'm gonna get the NAPA hub bearing with a lifetime warrantee 200.oo ....ea..
thanks for replying ..

good luck with your transmission ...

Re: '05 1500 5.3 Trans problem

My truck has been at the dealer one week today and it was test driven when I first gave it to them but since the transmission guy was on vacation the test driver just witnessed the problem but didn't do anything. Now they say when they drive it it's fine and doesn't throw any codes. The truck was barely drivable when I took it in and now it's miraculously fixed it's self.

this is another example of why tax money should not have saved GM'S ass ....

typical .......under warrantee no problems ,,,,after the warrantee ends , thousands to repair ...why did they take it , if the mechanic was on vacation ????

only one guy can take care of this ??? all B/S !

you better get all documents in written form , to cover your ass on this issue !

Re: '05 1500 5.3 Trans problem

If the guy who drove it couldnt do anything about it, why was he driving it in the first place?? He had no business doing any kind of test drive. They should have saved it for the trans guy. Tell them to drive it some more. These guys sound like a bunch of knuckleheads.

Re: '05 1500 5.3 Trans problem

I got the truck back today and they test drove it 46 miles to find the problem. They said the first guy drove it in case it wasn't the transmission but he witnessed the problem and left it for the trans guy. I drove it for maybe 25 miles with a lot of starts and stops and it didn't act up once. My instructions are to drive it and if it malfunctions immediately take it back to the shop and they'll give me a car again to use while they are messing with it. We have to use the truck to pull a horse trailer this weekend and then again a week later and we can't take a chance on getting stuck. But we don't have a choice.

Re: '05 1500 5.3 Trans problem

what is most important for you is ,,,,,,,what did they do to correct this ...........

I find driving your vehicle 46miles to troubleshoot pure B/S ....

they used your vehicle for dealership pick up drop off's..most likely..

I never heard of a dealership test driving a vehicle 46 miles to find a problem ! with the pcm/computer failures are all stored , for troubleshooting ..
