air intake filter cleaner??

i have an aftermarket air intake on my tahoe thats similar to a k&n filter/intake system jjust another brand. does anyone that has one know of a home brew for the filter cleaner solution? by the time i finish a bottle of filter cleaner, i still have 3/4 bottle of the filter oil left. unfortunately they dont sell the cleaner separate of the oil, they only sell them in sets of cleaner/oil. i think i have something like 3 or 4 bottles of oil and no cleaner! i was wondering if anyone knows of a home recipe that i can mix myself. any idea if something like simple green or some kind of off the shelf degreaser is safe for the application?

if you want an answer , what is the mysterious cleanable air filter ,manufacturer this would help ...

your looking for problems making your own cleaning solutions with these filters ....normally you just reoil the KN filter ,,,only if it gets dirty do you need some cleaner and you don't need very much if you give the solution time to work and gently use a soft paint brush to lossen the debris ...

oil catches the dirt particles you need oil on these fliters ...

when I oil them , I saturate the fully dryed filter . then with a cloth absorb the excess oil then install ....clean the maf sensor wires at this time with CRC MAF cleaner...

sorry, i didnt mean to make it a mystery. i just figures they were all pretty muck the same. anyways, i believe mine is an AIR RAID brand. i clean mine the same as you...spraying a dry filter, letting it sit, then rinsing clean from the inside out, although i dont use a brush. i was afraid it might force particles into the metal mesh.

i didnt want mix any harsh chemicals. i was thinking more like simple green/water soulution or some other off the shelf mix...nothing fancy that requires a chemistry degree.

you need the paint brush to loosen the debris that is in the pleat valleys...then with a flow of water you use the brush to help dislodge these particles....

a small latex paint brush works good ,,,not chinese bristle ..

Re: air intake filter cleaner??

I have used Bleche-White and Castrol degreaser successfully on my K&N filters in the past and never had a problem. I just make sure to use the K&N oil.
