Update.

I´m still working on the body corrections. The air ducts behind the doors have been modified.



The inlays for the leather straps on the front bonnet and the body have been filled. Using the PE-straps makes the unnecessary.



The body as it waits for further primer and sanding.

I started work on the chassis. All Parts have been primered using a flat primer and then flat black and various shades of silver have been added to the parts. The wheels have been primered using the Tamiya Metal Primer and then I added two layers of Mica Silver (TS-76).







The brake discs were enhanced using the PE-parts fromt he Hobby Design Set. I refrained using parts of the PE sets because I figured the wheels would fit better. They then have been painted acrylic iron and some rust was dry-painted.







That´s all for now and I think the pictures show that I will go curbside.

True. I was taking the pictures last morning, when the sun came out. If they seem to me too bright on final assembly I will tone them down.

Update.

The body received the white stripe. I chose not to decal this stripe since the white part also goes around the front. Therefore from my past experiences it is better to mask that part and paint it.





I also started with the interior. The instruments panel is done. I enhanced it using the parts from the Hobby Design Detail kit. The steering wheel will receive a glossy finish later on in this project.

I wonder why did you mask the body to spray the stripe. I'd just spray the area white, then mask it of and spray the blue. That way you don't have to mask it twice, and no worrying about matching the mask.

I thought about that as well. From my experience by doing it this way I escape two problems:
- too much (thick) paint on the body
- paint works the best when sprayed onto primer

These are the main reasons why I masked the stripe. Besides that it was the first try using maskol by Humbrol. Using it the first on doing a white stripe on white primer looked less risky in means of messing something up. Once I have more confidence in this product I might work around an extra round of masking.

P.S.: The last reason for this masking is me being sometimes a little overcomplicated and super-careful.

No. I also did it to make clear tail lenses for my custom 350 Z....but I used .015 Butyrate, not acetate, which holds it's shape better.

Thank you for the question. I used the "new" Revell aqua color no. 382 over a base of Tamiya white Primer.

The paint arrived. I had the azzurro california metallic blue (ferrari-color-code 524 - offerded for the 2009 Ferrari California) mixed by a german company I found on the internet. I just couldn´t wait to lay it onto the model.

First I wanted to see how the color would look like. Therefore I painted a plastic strip and added a layer of TS-13 afterwards.



That looked good to me. What the pictures doesn´t show is that the blue is changing in its depth and darkness depending on how much bright light you view it in.

The color looks pretty much right to me. The blue is darker that what I used before. The pictures show a little too greyish shade of the color. Nevertheless it is much bluer than it appears on the taken fotographs. It comes very close to what the car was actually painted with in 1962:



This morning I masked the white areas and then added 3 mist coats of the color. It worked very well. The custom mixed paint was great to work with.



And then ... I removed the masking. Almost no bleed through and almost no sharp edges where the blue meets the white.









I let the paint gas out over night and will add two or three layers of clear before starting the laborious task of sanding with 2000 grid paper and rubbing the surface with Tamiya finishing compounds.
