Question Seat belt/Air Bag indicater on all the time

2007, 2500HD, 6L engine with 195,000 KM

Hey guys I bought this truck today and noticed that the chime for not wearing the seat belt doesn't work and the seat belt indicator is on all the time.

I need this working to pass a safety inspection before I can register the truck.

If any one has any ideas on where I can start to look for the problem that would be a great help.

Do you think someone pulled the "chime unit" (if there is one)out of truck and this causes the indicator to stay on all the time?

Sure appreciate any help!

You need to get it on a good Body/transmission/engine capable scanner to find out what is going on.

Post back any body or other codes.

If a saftey issue that was bad when you bought it.
Or If you just bought it the person that sold it to you should fix it for you.

I believe the chime is in the BCM body control module ...years ago this was separate and could be disabled...

check that the seat belt wiring at the bottom of the seat where it mounts to the floor are connected or not damaged...if that is good ...

check all fuses ..

then since you just purchased this ,,,where I live they must fix it..unless you payed less the 750.oo for it ...

Re: Seat belt/Air Bag indicater on all the time

Thanks for the quick replies,

I will check what I can today and post back, otherwise I will most likely take it to the dealer for the safety inspection as I don't have any type of scan tool.

Wiring under the seat looks good, fuses look good but is there one specific one I should be looking for as several spots have nothing in them.

Also looks as if someone has been messing with the wiring- the purple wire where the code scanner plugs in has been cut - re-spliced and taped up.

Right by the emergency brake pedal I removed a plastic cover that houses some electrical wiring blocks, on the back of the cover it shows a spot for "30A CB SEAT".
Nothing is in this spot and I am wondering if the circuit breaker has been removed?

Posted some pictures at link below - Thanks for looking!

Re: Seat belt/Air Bag indicater on all the time

Well got it working. The 15 amp air bag fuse was blown. It looked good when I pulled it, but since I couldn't find anything else I went back to it and tested. Sure enough it was open. Replaced it with a fresh one and all is good.

Thanks for the help!

well thats good because the dealer surely would not just change the blown fuse and bill you 20.oo !

you probably saved a few hundred dollars ...

when you have these type of problems using a meter , check all fuses ,,,
looking is not reliable...

being an electronic tech fuses don't just blow....hopefully for you this was done when the vehicle was worked on ..

good luck ..

I agree 100%, I am an electrician and do know better, but I was in a rush and made a amateurs mistake. That what I get for being in a hurry/panic.

I found a few signs of previous work; it looks like someone removed a remote start system and maybe a trailer brake controller. Any way, I am hoping the fuse holds, so far so good.

Thanks again.

with your prior posting thats why I stated it may have blown after someone worked on it ...probably did some wiring work with the battery connected ...just hope it does not blow again ...
